Service: Design and Implement Structures and Processes
Service Highlight # 1 The Environmental, Health and Safety Group with a major majufacturing concern wanted to move from a decentralized, deployed organization to a shared service model. PDA partners worked with a critical mass of managers and employees to design the proposed organizational structure and work processes over a four-month period. The organization was launched in a meeting of the whole department and a cross section of their internal customers. The session was used to validate the new organization design and create an action plan to deploy it. Action teams were created to manage different aspects of implementation with checkpoint meetings held every 30 days. The organiation effectively transitioned to a shared service operation with no disruption of service and a 25% reduction in cost, while improving service to their internal customers. Service Highlight # 2 An aerospace company was combining their military and commercial manufacturing facilities and integrating them with their respective engineering organizations. The management team had struggled for months with how to structure the new organization. In frustration they requested help from a PDA partner who helped them structure an offsite meeting for the entire team to "play war games" with the several competing organizational designs. As a result of working through a series of scenarios with each plan, the group was able to integrate the best ideas from each design into on plan that they could all agree to.
