Service: Develop Leadership
Service Highlight # 1 "How can we develop our leaders like we did when we were a smaller organization?" was a question the head of a division of one of our technology clients asked his staff development team. For the year 2000, they wanted to have a special leadership conference that created lasting impact on the organization and the organization's leaders. PDA was called in to help plan the leadership conference. The large division wanted to begin a journey to raise the standards of leadership at every level. They convened a cross-section of the organization to begin planning the initiative, including an event for the top 350 leaders of the division. PDA mobilized the team by having them connect what they were planning with their strategic business objectives and the resolution of their operational issues. By the end of the conference and three months into the initiative, they recognized the PDA process as a key ingredient in what they called "the best leadership kickoff ever." Service Highlight # 2 The leadership team of a manufacturing facility was in disarray. they wre charged with enacting a major organizational change that would entail the closing of facilities and the movement of key functions and personnel and they could not agree on how to get the job done. After struggling for months and with deadlines looming, they contacted a PDA partner for assistance. PDA provided coaching to the senior leaders of the group on change leadership and designed a process to align the entire leadership plan on a change roadmap for implementing the new organization. Using the challenge of the change, its operational and social isues, PDA provided timely coaching and feedback to the leadership team throughout the change process, mixing leadership development with change process facilitation. As one participant summarized after, "Individually and collectively we grew wmore as manager and leaders through this process than from any other single experience I have had in my whole career. And we did it while doing actual work."
